"Rather: Journalists Have Lost Their Guts"

"Former CBS Nightly News anchor Dan Rather says that journalists have "lost our guts" fearful of reporting "something people in power don't like," the Toronto Star reported....

"I think journalists and journalism— certainly in the U.S.— we lost our guts. An attitude got around: Be careful, because if you report something people in power don't like, you may have to pay a very heavy price for that. That's not in the best tradition of U.S. journalism, nor do I think it's in the best tradition of the free press anyplace," said Rather...

...The decline of journalism has done damage to society which depends on an informed electorate"...

No fucking shit, Dan...especially that last one...but you left one BIG one out....some shit just doesn't get reported because journalist agree with the policies they are supposed to set aside their bias about when reporting...or should we call it non-reporting.

Part of me wonders if there would be such polarization in the country if people knew that the media was actually questioning those in power like it should be doing instead of covering for them. When people feel like they're being lied to by government AND media, they begin to become openly angry - as no one has their voice. Just a thought.

It depends on who benefits. Most on the left don't really seem to mind being lied to if they agree with the lie. They only seem to get angry at those who are actually reporting facts. They are also quick to call many of those facts lies. I think much of today's anger is because the right want's some on the left to actually stand up against the current leadership, but they won't. The left is angry at the right for trying to stand in the way of the biggest lurch to the left since early last century. The country is being transformed, as promised, so those who hate their country (the progressives) are angry at those who stand in their way, and those who don't want to move left are angry, especially at things being rammed down their throats in very partisan ways, like the ACA, and by regulation when congress actually does agree against something.

The anger has nothing to do with the media except by those, including myself, who think if the media over all was doing what the constitution grants them, and doing so without bias, we would not even get close to electing an Obama or a Hillary.

This campaign will not be dictated to by fact checkers.

Each side has their own fact checkers. Who to believe?

  6. I think so. For non-sheeple, the media covering for gov't BS only adds insult to injury and implies there will be more of the same that will also be swept under the rug.

This comes from former CBS Nightly News anchor Dan Rather - who spent years fabricating news for the Democratic party.

He is an odd one to claim that reporters have no guts.

There are fact checkers who check facts (real journalists), and fact checkers who side with those who live by "the ends justify the means"...like those unbiased progressive sites. *cough*
