Journaling - What tags make sense

Discussion in 'Journals' started by David's faith, Sep 3, 2023.

  1. I'm playing around with the idea of using tradesviz and the function to add tags makes me wonder - what tags are useful to have beyomd "strategy x", market condition, trade direction or the instruments name? Do you guys also tag the hour of the trade to investigate how you are doing at different times of the day? Anything else that is important?

First, thanks for mentioning TradesViz. I was not aware of it. I don't have much interest, but I would like to see what the 400 (omg! lol) "visualizations" are. I'd guess day of week and hour of day are built-ins.

Anyway, regarding tags, a few extemporaneous ideas...

    Thanks again,
    Good trading to ya.

  3. Hey don't make fun of me XD The simple reason I use it over my current solution is it saves charts so I don't have to save screenshots for every trade like an idiot like I do now and then completely lose my mind finding the right one when looking them through

LOL. Nothing wrong with journaling trades. Several blue moons ago I used to do it in an Access database. Problem was creating usable reports. It took way more time than entering data, including pics. Basically, the journal was a silo... no way out in a reasonable time for the data, but easily queried on screen!

Nowadays I keep a PKM open during the trading day. I use Logseq. I make all sorts of notes, screenshots, etc throughout the day. The silo is virtually non-existent with modern progs like Logseq. Easy to export, print, or even publish to the web in a few clicks. The trick to using the current batch of PKMs is not getting bogged down setting-up a "perfect" system of data storage. The current batch of PKMs that I like are Logseq, Anytype and Joplin. There are many others.

    Carry On!

I just use a spreadsheet, example
1 S or L (long or short), entry price, time of entry, type of trade (eg flag, retrace zone) MFE, MAE, Initial Risk. 2xIR ( a common target) and result of trade
I use ticks (ES) for MFE, MAE, IR 2X and result. I track qualified signals, taken or not.

Here is an example, the last column is either a loss or a scratch. I round out the entry price so I am not typing fractions as it is not necessary.
