Apparently I missed this, did anyone catch it? He must have known Aquaman wasn't real, right? From Page Six. 'AQUA' ILLUSION July 12, 2006 -- JUST like Ron Burgundy, the lead character in "Anchorman," it seems CNBC anchor Joe Kernan will say anything that's on the teleprompter. Monday afternoon, while doing a roundup of the weekend's box office, Kernan said: "Disney was the big winner . . . 'Pirates' plunders the box office, making $132 million in its first three days at the box office. The previous three-day record was 'Aquaman' at $120-plus, which beat out the 115 million which was set back by 'Spider-Man' back in May of '02.' " Unfortunately, there has been no "Aquaman" movie - except in episodes of HBO's "Entourage." A rep for CNBC didn't return calls. Here's a video link - as poor quality as it is. Interesting, he gave a straight delivery, like he didn't know aquaman was fake. http://www.jossip.com/gossip/cnbc/a...ake-but-cnbcs-reporting-it-wasnt-20060712.php
Ok, so it looks like he did get it. These guys are saying that there was an eariler reference to Entourage, and that he didn't repeat it when he got around to it the second time, so it looked like he was out to lunch - but really he wasn't. http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlny/tv/cnbc_exec_we_got_the_aquaman_joke_40001.asp?c=rss Basically, it's a non-story.
Kernan's a very bright, witty guy with a touch of irreverence so I'm not at all shocked he could dead pan through this.
