This is an incredible scandal, even for Trump. The fact that Ivanka is on video denying this and there’s a memo from Kelly detailing exactly how Trump overrided national security interests makes this even worse.

The good news for you right wingers is there’s now another witch to add to you bon fire, John Kelly.

Lordy, I hope there’s more memos.

WASHINGTON — President Trump ordered his chief of staff to grant his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, a top-secret security clearance last year, overruling concerns flagged by intelligence officials and the White House’s top lawyer, four people briefed on the matter said.

Mr. Trump’s decision in May so troubled senior administration officials that at least one, the White House chief of staff at the time, John F. Kelly, wrote a contemporaneous internal memo about how he had been “ordered” to give Mr. Kushner the top-secret clearance.

The White House counsel at the time, Donald F. McGahn II, also wrote an internal memo outlining the concerns that had been raised about Mr. Kushner — including by the C.I.A. — and how Mr. McGahn had recommended that he not be given a top-secret clearance.

How is this a scandal for Trump. The chief executive has the power to order someone be given a security clearance. It has been done by previous presidents.

These are the same 'OMG HILLARY LEAKED CLASSIFIED MATERIAL LOCK HER UP' crowd.

Trump more than anything has exposed these low intellect hypocrites who have to defend his every criminal move. There is a reason why Trump University was a success.

You should probably read the article. This is not what you make it out to be.

Kushner could not get cleared by the fbi, cia, nor passed the office of personnel or White House counsel.

Every single stop gap either said no or could not come to a consensus. To say this is run of the mill stuff is very misleading.

As far as abuse of powers, this is big. As far as Trump being a guy who commits crimes almost everyday, it’s a run of the mill outrage.

As a country, we have fallen.

The President has total authority over the granting of security clearances. Full Stop.

Sure and in many other areas. For example, he can pardon Paul Manafort if he wanted to. Full Stop.

Having the power to do something and abusing it are two different things.

The one exception in our history, of course, being Barrack Obama who was unable to obtain the highest level of security clearance due to his prior drug use. That left him "unbriefed" on several of the most important defense programs on the planet. He had to use surrogates to brief him at reduced levels. Pathetic.
