does anyone have experience using one of the deep discount brokers in Japan? I find IB's commission for Tokyo SE stocks too expensive.
If you do not have an address in Japan, you can't open an account here. If you lived here, you could open a margin account and trade with zero commission.
Sorry, don't really know what you mean by 'mainstreet mom-pop shops'. I thought you were interested in deep discount brokers. Zero is as deep as it gets. No trick.
From what I see of these sites, they do seem to have Commission free offers for Margin trading (with conditions though) æ¾äºè¨¼å¸ãã©ã¤ãã¹ã¿ã¼è¨¼å¸ free over 3 mil yen / trade , 80 yen under that. This link might give you an idea of what the cheapest options outside them are ( if you can navigate around the Japanese, price comparisons are about 1/3 of the way down). It will all come down to how big you are trading as to what the best deal is for you though. http://kabukiso.com/security/itiran.html
