"Maybe this would be a good time to consider whether you’ve been brainwashed and the rest of the country didn’t fall for it"
You're right, it wasn't really all that much of a retort. But your original post wasn't exactly an intellectual one, either.
Democracy is not perfect and never has been. Yet, the reality, we now have a convicted felon 34x who will take office as President of the United States in late January. That's what most of America wants and it's not something to cry about because life goes on. As a Republican, I did not vote for Trump. Yet, I did vote for many Republicans in my state and gave financial support to other Republicans in the states of Kentucky and South Dakota where my two brothers live. The person I dislike 2nd to Trump was Kari Lake in Arizona...she lost. Anyways, America is divided not because of Trump. In my opinion, I started seeing the division or maybe I became more tuned to it during the Gulf War (Dessert Storm) a few years after graduating from college although I believe Trump found a way to tap into that division after he flipped-flopped between the Reform party, Democrat party and now finding a home in the Republican party. Many years ago, I remember a big protest at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. A lot of angry people but many angry voices were not about sending us overseas to fight a war...the angry voices were more about domestic politics and not foreign policy... Republicans and Democrats yelling at each other. It's been escalating since those years far beyond Kentucky or any other U.S. military base. I think that's when I began to not trust my fellow Americans because people began to seem "unhinged". My girlfriend at the time (a West Point Alumni) began to talk about living abroad after the military. Today, we maintain a residence in the United States while living abroad as other expats do. We meet more and more Americans doing the same...more this year than any other year. Some expats say it's because of Obama, some say it's because of Trump, and some say it's because of Biden... Whatever the reason, the reasons do not seem "stupid" to me and most are from Republican states. Their feelings (it's emotional) seem more like they think Democracy is broken. In 2019, we spent more time living in the U.S. as Veterans and I needed some care at the VA for a knee injury (hockey) and some follow-up care from a serious illness a few years earlier. We then returned to Québec, Canada just in time for the Pandemic to watch the differences in the behavior between different countries. Yet, again, perfect timing. Today, we now worry about Russia/Ukraine (North Korea) and Israel/Hamas (Iran/Hezbollah) I do not trust Trump because he's a convicted felon 34x and his involvement on January 6th, 2021. More importantly, I do not trust any politician in America, Canada, or France but maybe because I now have a son who's a cadet and one day soon could see combat too one day... Now I know how my mom felt when I graduated from college and joined the military even though she was married to my old man (a retired military officer at the time). Lace up your boots, trade, or do whatever you want that helps you get through today and tomorrow. Democracy will find a way to survive another 4 years of Trumpism and then maybe the GOP I grew up within...will return. If not, life goes on. For what it's worth, there will not be another January 6th, 2021 attack on our Capitol or Democracy. Thus, there will be a smooth transition of power from Biden to Trump. In my opinion, that's how America heals from the election chaos that we've seen this year in 2024 like no other I've seen before. P.S. I lived in South Korea for a while, I may need to brush up on my Korean if hell breaks loose with North Korea getting involved in the Russia/Ukraine crap. I spent most of last night Facetime with friends at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort Bragg (Liberty), North Carolina talking about North Korea instead of the U.S. Presidential election. wrbtrader
Even Andrew Cuomo says the case was lawfare and never should have been brought. Thanks Alvin Bragg for helping elect Trump.
