    Hi,
Currently I am using following two Toshiba HDDs in my Dell Workstation T-7500 for storage purpose ( No OS )

and they are working together fine

    (1) Dell Toshiba MG08ADA400NY ( 4 tb ) HDD
    (2) Toshiba MG08ADA600E ( 6 tb ) HDD

But they are full now and I want to buy a new Toshiba 10 TB Enterprise HDD.

Model available in the market is Toshiba MG09ACA10TE as in following Toshiba site.

    https://toshiba.semicon-storage.com...loud-scale-capacity/articles/mg09-series.html

My question is, would it be compatible with my workstation just like the other two ?

    Thank You

  2. Yes, it's almost certainly compatible. However there could be a "maximum supported" issue. Seems 10TB might have been the limit before* and even now. If you've got another spare drive, try hooking it up (both in the box and externally) and see if your sata controller accepts/rejects. Many memory devices have a maximum size they are programmed to handle.

*10TB might have been the original limit... but might have been increased with updates over the years...

Unfortunately I don't have another 10 TB HDD. I am gradually increasing. From 3 TB to 6 TB so far has been working.

Sorry, one link didn't work so trying to post again.

  5. I wasn't thinking of an additional 10TB.... just a 1TB to exceed a possible "10TB limit".

And I would be using only a 500GB with Win-7 on it & nothing else and using only 10 TB for data thus only 1 SSD & 1 HDD. Thus I would be exceeding a limit of 10 TB by 500GB OS SSD.

  7. The key issue may be whether or not there is a 10TB limit... if that's the case, adding even only 500GB drive above the supposed "10TB limit" should get an error message.

However... I wouldn't add a W7 drive to this system for the test. The 500GB drive should have the same OS as the others. If changing your W7 drive to a W10 drive, I HIGHLY recommend doing a "low level format" and installing W10 on it before putting it on line with the others... the low level format will erase the "zero track"* on the W7 drive.... and a fresh install of W10 will put the "W10 zero track" on it.

    * "normal" formatting the drive does not or often does not erase the old "zero track". Your drive will not work properly if there is a zero track issue. Any time you change OS on a drive, you should do a low level format to erase the old zero track. (The way it's supposed to work is that upgrading the OS is supposed to install a new zero track. I've seen where it did not do that and caused problems.)

Just tried something. I connected two other HDDs one 4 TB & One 6 TB on top of the 500GB SSD & I am replying to you right now with 3 drives totaling exactly 10.5 TB & they all are working. I also tried to transfer some folders from 4 TB Dell Toshiba HDD to 6 TB Toshiba HDD without any problem so looks like one 500 GB OS SSD & one 10 TB Toshiba should work as long as the Model I described above " Toshiba MG09ACA10TE " works with my system. Am I correct ?

  9. Sounds like it. If there were a 10TB limit, you'd have received an error message at 10.5TB.... It's all up to the SATA controller... whatever limit (if there is one) that it will handle.
