Think very hard about that and all it entails. The answer is yes. His actions could directly topple the U.S. Presidency and send the world into economic chaos as markets would sell off hard in the face of unprecedented uncertainties. I have said all along the "Kim factor" is China's ultimate trump card in the trade negotiations. Trump has basically painted himself into a corner here. Where it goes now... well, that's going to come down to Trump, but I shudder to think about what will happen if Kim is (secretly) given the green light to launch a medium range ICBM over Japan and into the Pacific. No way Trump can let that happen. It would basically ensure a 2020 loss. So from where I sit, its checkmate. China wins. We'll get a toothless deal spun to look like a "great win". The markets will breathe a sigh of relief, and China will remain steadfast on its path to becoming the world's foremost super-power.
China is going to win eventually anyway. They are not divided, and we are. We can't hope to compete. Even if Trump wins everything he wants in concessions from China, two years from now when he loses (and I personally believe he will) the next President will spend the next four years dismantling everything.
If Trump's kowtowing in Japan is any indication, you may be right that China has the upper hand. As he/she the should, this guy set us back a decade (4 years of lost progress, and however many years it takes to get back on track), no accounting for a financial meltdown of course
Kim says jump and Trumps says how high so yes I would give the edge to Kim. I want to repeat a quote to highlight: "[Trump's] willingness to meet with North Korea is one of the most disturbing displays of [Trump's] lack of foreign policy experience."
China doesn't have to give Trump "squat". All Xi needs to do is delay and outlast Trump. Trumpy wants/(needs) a BIG trade concession... quickly. (Election coming up, you know.) Doubt he will get it. In the end, Trump will have to settle for a whimpy, "fringe around the edges" agreement just so that he can claim he "got a deal". Won't be of substance however as China was handed the hammer and ain't about to give it back.
Trump has been a giant disaster on foreign policy. Russia, North Korea, Iran, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Europe and our neighbors on south and north. and yet all you wackos still suckup to him.
Yep, pretty much. If the US were unified, and both parties recognized China's actions as unfair (which they are) and Congress supported the President, China would have no choice but to reform. And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.
The financial meltdown that is coming is way, way over due and has been since before Trump was even an idea as President.
