2cents, May I ask if you had one thing that you would like to see added to ET, what might that be? Michael B.
There are too many to list, but 90% of them, although they would improve the site immensely, are things that would not be in the best interests of the owners. I fully understand why they don't make those changes.
Nik, lets take a "leap of faith" mate... ES, i find ET stands out, no question... but 2 areas perhaps: 1. for sure the forum needs "healthy" debates, high posting & viewing rates on the one hand... however there is still too much trash in the forums outside P&R, and probably a good amount of unnecessary trolling / abusing etc taking place in some of those forums / threads as well... look back at early 2001 etc threads... much better atmosphere on the board, much more informative content etc... of course 911 then hit and radicalised a lot of ppl (eg hapaboy was a nice chap before 911) and understandably so, but... isn't there a way to get the best of both worlds? how, you might be asking? simply be harder on posters, apply temporary bans to abusers / rule offenders quickly, then permanent bans. you won't lose traffic, not the quality traffic that attracts eyeballs that attract $$$ ad revenues, all the contrary, there is all to be gained in raising the standards of behaviour (outside of the P&R toilet)... would that require an army of full-time mods? not so, simply co-opt willing long-time members / contributors with mod-like authority if you need more eyepower 2. the buddy list. i may be misusing it, i dunno, thing is, i simply don't use it, cause i haven't figured out how to make sensible use of it... as you may recall, i and others have suggested it would be nice to have an option to "subscribe to buddies" so we get notified when they post (to me mcurto, rufus_4000, lon eagle, taboni etc wld be good names to have)... afraid of trolls / stalkers? well, with more active moderation in place, stalkers will be promptly discouraged seems to me... more importantly, as FuturesTrader71 and others have pointed out, since there are no "barriers to entry" on ET and the site has become hugely popular, its become harder to sift thru the trashy contents... a voting / "digging" functionality, and/or sticky threads could help here. either voting / "digging" a poster or a thread... and the cherry on the cake would be, when rufus_4000 who's on my buddy list votes a thread / poster up/down, i get notified!!! JMO but... the above measures would go a long way in helping form tightly-knit groups of ETers and generally upping the level of and strengthening the ET community base... all v.add-value marketable stuff seems to me where shall i send my bill? Baron or u got sign-off authority now?
hope i didn't give u a stroke ES... u've never been so quiet just took a look at vBulletin http://www.vbulletin.com/ the engine used by ET... what i and others are suggesting seems to be part of this platform's standard features for the most part... just a couple of switches... but we can also send u $$$ if your struggling with ad revenues, just let us know...
Alright, what's going on in here.. I know you're all talking about me.. Yes, I DID come over from EliteFITNESS.com and I am, for all intents and purposes an amateur trader. I apologize ahead of time for any revealing photoshopped pictures or semi-macho remarks i will make during my interim at this site. I also would like to apologize if I appear to be peaking into conversations I have no clue about. I really like the fact that I can ask one question and get 5-10 different answers from people from all different walks of life. I am in great debt to Al Gore for inventing this internet thingy. Hi Electric. It's good to hear from you. I think what's happened here is simple. All Other Investing Boards Suck. Who has the time to argue with college kids? Who wants to dabble in the angry mire that is yahoo? Also I think this guy stonedinvestor is really bringing in the new meat with his fresh outlook on things!
