How much do you think the price of crime is on our economy? Think about businesses that are forces to close down because of violent criminals and what the economic consequences are to those communities. It alsi has to play a big role with inflation as well. We have all witnessed the rampant theft and total disregard for the law. Look at what they are doing in Philadelphia, its outrageous! https://6abc.com/amp/philadelphia-pa-looting-center-city-foot-locker/13832625/
Everyone knows which political party is weak on crime. As an example, Democrat Dallas district attorney enacted a policy to stop prosecuting theft below $750.00. After criminals started stealing under that threshold, and Business owners started to complain, Mr Cruezo has since rescinded that policy. They should be prosecuted even if they steal $1.00 worth of merchandise.
It's about the trade off. For every case they take, how much of the taxpayer money is going into the case? (trial, personnel involved, jail time etc etc). I don't know the answer, but I'm thinking they figured that it's cheaper to not prosecute. Or we could always do public punishment. Public lashing or just cut people's hands off if we have video recording that they stole. Harsh, but cheap; plus the ramification of having people witness that in public would push those people thinking of committing those crimes away.
You forgot you have another thread here in the trading threads about the same topic several months ago but via your prior username that was banned...a prior username that sometimes misspelled the word "also" by writing "alsi". By the way, theft occurs in EVERY city in America. It's almost a 100 billion dollar loss for retail stores each year. I will say the following as an add-on to your prior thread... Inflation is not the only force responsible for the rising prices of food, clothing, and convenience items. Runaway shoplifting is the covert culprit weighing down your already-hefty shopping bills. wrbtrader
I've identified several Republican states with LESS strict policies on retail theft in a recent thread. My point, it's happening everywhere in America...democrat and republican states...weak laws on retail organized crime regardless of the state, city, or county. wrbtrader
We'll see how it plays out but if enough of the loot ends up on eBay and Amazon and starts crossing state lines it won't matter what the local prosecutors do 'cause the feds will get involved. Then people start telling on each other and everybody in the chain gets a conspiracy charge and goes down a few dozen months at 85%. That could end up having a chilling effect and slowing the activity down a little bit.
%% ONLY in places where they are soft or stupid on crime; left coast............... On a more positive note, may help some funeral homes; one man got fried like a piece of bacon, stealing power off power line
Community Policing works. We live in a semi rural area about 15-20 miles from a small city. We have seen crime go up a lot the past few years, stolen cars, break ins, and even some robberies. What did we do as a community? We formed a neighborhood watch where we break up into groups and take turns patrolling our community. I do it once per week, usually groups of 3-5. Two nights ago my wife and I are sleeping and about 3 in the morning I hear someome say “ Go get em boys ! , go get em ! We look outside my window and I see 5 guys with flash lights , guns and a dog running towards 2 men. Before I know it, the sherrif department shows up and I see them handcuffing 2 men who were seen breaking into a car. The neighborhood watch group saw them and went into action. The sherrif also got a call about 3 other suspicious men who were apprehended by another watch group and guess what? They were part of the criminal group our guys apprehended. They also arrested a driver of a stolen car who was the getaway driver. After searching the suspects, 2 of the 5 had guns and the driver had a gun hidden under the seat. What were they going to do with those loaded stolen guns????? The suspects were the “ usual suspects” and hopefully they will send word not to ever come to our community, we wont put up with it. Neighborhood patrols work. Go get em boys !!!!! Go get em !
It's also cheaper to end the war on drugs and let the US get flooded even more with illicit drugs. This is a war on ideology not drugs, firearms, abortions, crime...
