I am trying to help my neighbor with a problem. He uses AT&T for his service provider via their Uverse service. The problem is with a desktop that will sometimes not be assigned an IP address and therefore cannot access the internet. It started yesterday, and he says after walking away in frustration he came back later and it was working. Today the same thing happened with an IP address never being assigned. I tried repairing the connection via Windows but that did not solve the problem. FWIW, the Uverse service uses the house wiring for wired computers. Their laptop using a wireless connection is working. I would appreciate any suggestions on dealing with this issue, as I don't know if it is a computer hardware or internet connection problem. TIA.
