I am plugging this because I think there must be a lot of IB option traders who aren't aware and will be pleasantly surprised ... For me, the biggest problem with executing hedged option orders with IB is there was no decent way to package the option order with the hedge and have the package on the server in the event of a TWS disconnect ... I have a great app for executing hedges when an option order is filled or partially filled, but I consider it only good for small orders because for a large order a missed hedge due to TWS disconnect can ruin my whole month. IB attached order types like delta hedge and beta hedge were nearly useless when I tried them, and I never tried "pair trade" because it wouldn't work for combos ... what is needed is a very generic attached order type, so we can use our own hedge quantity (our own delta, or our own desired non-delta hedge), and use our own desired hedge instrument (e.g. for SPX options maybe e-mini front, maybe e-mini back, maybe SPY or leveraged ETF). Anyway, the "pair trade" order looked promising but never worked for combos, and IB is now fixing this - see this thread from the Order Execution forum: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?t=283563 After the small kinks are worked out, this appears to be what I've always wanted: A very generic way to execute the hedge you really want and have the hedge on the server in the event of TWS disconnect (obviously, hedge execution will also benefit from significantly lower latency). Hope this post is good news for some of you ...
