Interactive Brokers average trade price

  1. My ITM short puts on TSLA at strike 1200 got assigned. But on the TWS quote monitor, it says my average trade price is 1159.61 rather than 1200. I called IB but they couldn't tell me why.

    Last week I sold 5 put contracts of SPCE at strike 14, and the trade price was 0.09 and the average price was close to 0.09; however, today, TWS says my average price was 0.00;

    What is going on here? Anyone has similar experiences with IB?

  2. How much did you receive for the 1200 short put? You're average price will be lower then 1200 with the amount received..

    Is there any way to turn this off? I would prefer the share price to not be adjusted.

  4. I don't think so, it is your average cost price..

    Why? Just to make you feel better? Why insist on thinking unconventionally?

    You won't forget the strike which is part of the contract name.

    Because if I get assigned on my short put, I will keep the stock and wait to sell it at break even or better. But the break even price includes the premium, so if I sell it at what TWS is showing, I will actually take a loss on the stock. I just want to keep premium profits separate from equity profits. I can adjust the price on TWS, but it seems I have to do it every day.

    All brokers do the same. It is a general broker accounting practice and not specific to IB.

  8. I thought about that too. It appears that my cash amount decreased by similar amount, but not exact.

    Disregard. My comment was dumb. You will forget the strike (at least I would) because the option was exercised and gone!

    And, I also understand your wish to maintain that break even marker more easily.

    You can submit a " product enhancement " request with IBKR but don't hold your breath.

    I don't like when people call tops and bottoms, but I highly doubt you'll see TSLA at $1200 again for a long time.
