Hi all, I’m new here and would like to share that I’ve just released a Google Chrome extension, which gives you alerts about (legal) insider trading transactions, based on sec.gov form 4 filings. I’m very open to any feedback on what could be improved and if there are any features you would like to see. It’s free with an option to upgrade. You can find it here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/insider-trading-alerts/ifmkgoihgngbndfmoobaakakkgjiffom
Very cool. One could be interested, in the total amount over a period, say 30 days or what the total is for that company (all officers e.g.) of a period. Also one usually checks the institutional holdings information.
Thanks for your ideas. Yes I'm thinking about providing an overview of all recent filings of a company. What do you mean by 'the institutional holdings information'?
No I'm not. At the moment I'm working on an app (or script) placing orders automatically the moment a filing is being published (checking the sec website every 5 seconds). Are there a lot of traders trading with their phones?
It is always reported in the standard reports. Along with the number of shares, the float. It is the shares held by institutions. Here is a link to Apple: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/holders. Give you an idea how much is in play and which players are involved. Insiders are usually listed here too, but delayed until they update, unlike what you are trying to do: No delay.
I read somewhere that buying stocks that the insiders are buying does give the trader some trading edge (cannot remember the name of the book though). However, the same study shows that shorting stocks that the insiders are selling does not seem to produce any significant benefit in the long run. After all, the CEO of a company could be selling his own stocks just to purchase a villa for his mistress, somewhere in the South of France...
I remember watching some video about stock picking service based on this. Basically they were keeping history of buys and sells to try to find anomalies in individual insider’s activity. So maybe you can do something similar.
