Is there a way to determine (aside from looking at pre-market indications) if a certain stock is going to open up/down in the NYSE?
I have noticed certain stocks opening down without any indications from the specialist, and vice versa with up stocks.
Are there any further signs that one should look for to make this determination?
    Thanks in advance.

  2. Premarket gaps may give you an edge. I trade nasdaq myself. So I don't know about nyse. Checking tradingday.com for premarket gainers/losers.

If it's liquid at all, look at where the ECNs are. That may give you some indication, though on a stock with news, it can be very wrong sometimes.
