Hi Looking for books that teach principles of long term investing ( I searched a few pages back on this subforum but only found advice on trading books) to give my daughter who is turning adult and will soon manage some money. I´ve read some books and lot of information on the topic but that was years ago, and can´t remember much. Any recommendation would be most welcome Thanks in advance !
I think the book.. The Intelligent Investor... by Benjamin Graham... might be one of 10 books to give to your daughter.
Thanks, I remember seeing lots of references to The Intelligent Investor. Just checked it out, might work indeed as one of the 10 first/top 10 books. As an introduction though I´m more looking for a book explaining an index based portfolio diversified across locations and sectors, going into compound interest, cost averagong, long term cycles as well as tax implications indeed, so that she gets to understand the difference between cap gains and withholding tax on dividends and interests. I´ve read a similar book based I think on Vanguard funds or ETFs but that was decades ago, there must be a lot more information available now I´ve got a half decent grasp on the topic btw, living solely off a mostly passive portfolio of financial assets, and want her to try and understand the topic, as this might bring her much more income than she´ll ever get working
This book is almost 30 years old...The principles still apply today. The numbers are different (because of inflation)...But it works. Very little on investing...More on how to become rich. New York Times best seller... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millionaire_Next_Door
I recommend: "Asset Pricing" by Cochrane and "Elements of Statistical Learning" by Hastie et al Both are available for free from the respective authors' websites. The former might require a little college-level calculus, and the latter at least an intuitive grasp of linear algebra (which translates, more or less, into the ability to visualize geometrically)
Thanks, I might have read this when starting to look into investing. Bogle should be great to get acquainted with index and passive investing Thanks Kevin, I had a look at both both books, Cochrane is a name I encountered several times over the years, but they seem a bit advanced, not really to get a basic understanding of investing in financial markets if I got the gist of them right
