"...Without the Electoral College, corrupt mobs in big cities like New York and Chicago, and shady socialist mayors like Bill DeBlasio and Lori Lightfoot who control election machines and graft in their cities, could always manipulate presidential elections, and control and manipulate the lives of farmers in Kansas, of coal miners in West Virginia, of fishermen working off the Carolina coast, of natural gas workers in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Texas..." The Electoral College remains one of America's last defenses to protect middle America against corrupt urban power, and a great check-and-balance against totalitarian rule-by-the mob.It must be defended at all costs. https://www.zerohedge.com/political/defense-electoral-college
The lefties, as you know, like to argue that America is a banana republic if we elect a president with anything less than a majority of the popular vote. Ahhh. No. We are banana republic if we elect a president by any means other than that specified in the Constitution. But then they argue that if that is the case then America just has an archaic old old white colonial slave owner's constitution. Really? They seem to be happy with all their canadian and european lefty leaders who are often elected under parliamentary systems with less than a majority of the vote. Prime Minister Trudeau, for example, was most recently elected in Canada in 2019 because his party prevailed with just 39% of the vote. You most definitely don't hear the lefties crying out that Canada is a banana republic then. They say "well, that is their system." Yeh, well guess what. The Electoral College is our system.
There is no good defense of the electoral college. It was created to appease slaveholders. Every vote should count the same. A conservative farmer in Iowa doesn't deserve to have his vote be more important than a liberal professor in California.
Same tired argument over and over. It had nothing to do with appeasing slaveholders. It limits the power of the populous states and gives the smaller states a bit more say in the outcome of the election. It's a fantastic feature that our founders conceived of. By the way, state legislatures can send whatever electors they want to. After all, this is The United States of America, not The United Peoples of America.
Tired argument? It's a historical fact that's not argued between anybody who paid attention in middle school. The electoral college very much had to do with appeasing slaveholders. It allowed the states to count their slaves without giving the slaves the right to vote. The more slaves they had the more 3/5th's people they had counted towards their delegates.
Yeah because the white guys with land were worried the black guys forced to work on the land were all of a sudden going to get the right to vote before woman and the white guys without land.
There you go projecting again. You're a hack who has zero interest in the truth. I prefer to live in fact-based reality.
