What does this have to do with Brittney Griner ??? Regardless, during the Trump Administration, they wanted to negotiate (secretly arrange some kind of a swap) with countries that held Americans as hostages. In comparison, the Biden Administration wants to do the swaps in front (not as secretive)...for all to see that America is doing what it can do to bring back home Americans especially those Americans who have family members very vocal & critical of the administration's lack of urgency. In my opinion, after the swaps have been made...hack into the system and steal back the money. Regardless, the timing of the announcement on 911 does stink big time. The swap should have been kept a secret for a few days or announced much earlier prior to 911. wrbtrader
The Griner deal was a prisoner swap that rewarded irresponsibility of an American and helped an outspoken enemy of the U.S. This prisoner swap rewards irresponsibility of Americans and also helps an outspoken enemy of the U.S.
Regardless, the later Americans had nothing to do with Britney Griner. Simply, your only connection involves the "irresponsibility" between these Americans whereas Griner is an outspoken supporter U.S. veterans who strongly disliked the policies of the Trump Administration and equalities in America long before Trump. Thus, I don't equate someone's dislike of Trump policies as an enemy of America because that would then imply EVERY DEMOCRAT is an enemy of America who does not deserve help if ever captured (taken hostage) by a country that's known to undermine Democracy including harboring international terrorists that have killed many innocent lives. In contrast, Trump and his gang members have been indicted for their crimes against America and the U.S. Constitution. I don't remember seeing any "indictment headlines" against Griner by the justice system in America. in Now, if she or any of those other American hostages in a foreign country had been double agents, selling/sharing U.S. government secrets, indicted or convicted traitors of America...I will then classify them as enemies of America... Leave them there with no help. wrbtrader
Yes, you don't like Trump. I don't like him either, but whataboutism has nothing to do with this. The irresponsibility is bailing out people who visit countries known for taking Americans hostage. These people are adults and should be responsible for their actions. Making deals like these with clear enemies encourages them to continue bad behavior.
This is something I strongly dislike... There are too many Americans visiting, tourists in countries with either a strong hatred of America or are known to take hostages in hopes of a big payday or big exchange. The U.S. knows (still does) about American hockey players and American basketball players at high risk while playing sports in countries like Russia or teaching/traveling in countries like Iran. I love to travel but would avoid those countries regardless of my occupation or any job requirements. I have a friend who has done private contract work in Iraq and Iran. He's nuts because he plans to bring his family even though there a travel warnings against such. Pure stupidity. wrbtrader
Coordinated tourism restrictions against countries that unjustly target Western citizens or their allies could give belligerent countries pause. Restrictions could range from a excise tax placed on travel to the belligerent country to forbidding travel entirely. Tourism dollars have a high economic multiplier effect and it wouldn't be long before the target country would feel the effects of such sanctions. It may be feasible for the creation of a online course that teaches travelers the laws and other considerations for each country to be visited. A minimum passing score on a test at the end of the course may be appropriate. Let's get serious, though. How stupid do you have to be to bring controlled substances into a country? Looking at you, Britney. How ethically challenged do you have to be (Looking at you, Joe): https://news.northeastern.edu/2022/...cessfully exchanged via,to the New York Times. Griner was successfully exchanged via a prisoner swap for the release of Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer nicknamed “The Merchant of Death.” Bout had been convicted by a New York jury on four counts that included conspiring to kill American citizens, according to the New York Times. The Times reports that Bout had evaded capture for years and was “probably the highest-profile Russian in U.S. custody.” Griner, a two-time Olympic basketball gold medalist and player for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, was arrested in Russia in February on charges of drug possession as she was leaving the country. Officials detained her after finding hashish oil in her luggage—a crime that carries up to 10 years in prison there.
