"The trader, Paras Shah, is reported to have been earning more than £1m a year including bonuses.

He was removed from his post as head of high-yield bond trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa last month, the Financial Times reported.

Citigroup has refused to make any comment on the allegations.

According to reports, Mr Shah, aged 31, was suspended following allegations that he helped himself to sandwiches from the canteen at the bank's London headquarters in Canary Wharf."

I think that is what the common man would refer to as... stealing.

In contrast, at another financial institution...there's free sandwiches, cookies, candies and other stuff that people making plus 1m a year are probably use to getting.

I know someone that turned down a job offer because the job did not offer free stuff like that because the prior jobs he had...they did offer such and I'm not talking about mints in a bread basket at the front desk. :D

After thinking about it, the bank might have shot itself in the foot. If the dude was making 1 MM with bonuses, he must have made a ton of money FOR THE BANK. So let's say the sandwich is $10 and he stole 1000. That is only 10K loss and he made probably a thousand times more for the bank.

So who is the real loser in the story? They could have just fined his ass for 5K or whatever and everybody would have been happier.

    re: Mr Shah, aged 31"

Mr Shah's departure came weeks before the bank was due to pay annual bonuses to senior employees."
I will give you a different scenario. Mr. Shah made an outrageous amount of money for the bank. The bank didn't want to pay the bonus because of the amount involved and because management at higher levels were jealous they would be receiving a lot less.

Ross Perot (remember him? A TRUE billionaire, and a TRUE Republican) made a rule that if you'd be fired if you cheated on your wife. WHY?
