For example Schwab/Fidelity allow you to add an agent to trade in to your account. IBKR has friends and family account (which I think is same as other brokers) I am specifically asking for trading options as an agent. So if one go thru all required forms and get the documented authority - does the agent required to get any license or registration ..any exam like SIE or similar ? I think the answer is 'not required' if someone is not getting any compensation or profit split from this but not sure if someone is getting some sort of compensation from this? @BMK @SamXX @Robert Morse
You need to check with your department of State rules as to when you need to be an RIA to get paid. It will vary from state to state. https://dfi.wa.gov/investment-advisers Search Labs | AI Overview In Washington State, a de minimis exemption allows certain investment adviser representatives (IARs) to avoid registration requirements if they have a limited number of clients. Specifically, an IAR is exempt if they have no more than five clients in the state and do not hold themselves out generally to the public as an investment adviser, according to Achievable. This exemption is based on the number of clients and the way the IAR presents their services.
Thanks - at lightspeed - do you allow authorized agents with either limited or full trading authority - similar to other brokers like IBKR/Schwab/Fidelity? I forgot to add- I was specifically asking for trading options as an agent.
So I was reading ..about de minimis in wa state ..you are right about having less than 5 clients in last 12 months but I think it only applies to out of state advisers.
I suggest you call them. I find this very difficult to pin down. https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=21.20
