Hello, recently you get TV charts on IB which look much better as the standard charts. But i couldn´t set up buy and sell buttons for the TV charts, they only can be set up on the regular charts. Maybe i overlooked something here. I could also trade on Tradingview directly but find their order management process a little bit complicated. I prefer buy and sell buttons with enabled auto stop loss.
Just log onto TV and then log onto IB and trade from TV charts directly using your IB account. IB's TWS sucks.
Problem with the TV chart is that the tick by tick updates are much slower than TWS charts. I rather look at ugly TWS chart than slow but pretty TV charts
I hate repeating myself like a friggin' parrot, but TV's charts, while good, is only half the story. They fall way short when it comes to trade executions. TV offers only the most basic order functionalities that go back like 20 years, eg. only buy/sell/OCO orders (the latter must be manually inputted for stop and target each time). Well, unless you don't mind manually sending buy/sell orders one at a time. I would say TV has to be the worst platform for order execution.
You have to manually enter OCO orders anyway even if you are logged into TWS and you have to check and check and check again to make sure everything is in order and all of the orders that you wanted to cancel upon execution of the main order are correct. OCO orders are in a pain. What I do is I enter the order directly from the TV chart just to get the order in then I go into TWS and modify the order later to add/remove stops and tp targets and etc. I guess I don't trade in volume so it's not that big of an issue for me.
No offense, but you're falling behind the times bro. You can indeed "bracket" OCO orders (or any type of orders) in TWS. In fact, there are many brokers that offer similar advanced order types. For example, Ninja offers ATM that automatically attaches a bracket order as soon as you enter your trade. In regards to TWS, take a look here: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/?f=/en/trading/tws-order-presets.php
That's not how I trade with OCO. I don't trade OCO with those preset or default values. I customize them myself so it makes no diff. to me where I enter the trade from. At least the TV charts is more informative, easy to read and work with and it's faster. TWS is a mess. Its charts are just barely viewable.
You are right. I prefer preset bracket orders which took a lot of time in TV to set up. @TheDawn mentioned it above. I think i will stay at TWS in regards to order execution (Booktrader, sell/buy buttons, classic tws).
So I logged in to TV, which I haven't done in a while, and found out there is a preset in their order config. Which is all good, except.... But then I find outthe bracket isn't automatically executed with your main order. It's a two step, where you need to send another order. 1) Execution of your main order (bracket order needs to be sen separately). 2) Bracket order which you've previously configured. 3) But in order to send the bracket order, you will first have to open the Ladder (if you haven't done so already) and then click on the "order preset" button at the top and select your preset. 4) So in the process, you have needlessly wasted nearly 5-10 seconds of your time. Maybe there's a shortcut that I might not be aware of. But I dunno why they would wanna make you go through more hoops.
