https://en.xiaomitoday.it/ibm-replaces-artificial-intelligence.html IBM to replace thousands of employees with artificial intelligence: what does it mean for the future of work? Gianluca Cobucci May 2, 2023 Tech giant IBM plans to stop hiring people for positions it believes can be handled by artificial intelligence IBM CEO, Arvind krishna, he stated in ainterview with Bloomberg that 30% of the approximately 26.000 non-customer jobs could be replaced by AI, equal to approximately 7.800 jobs lost. According to Krishna, HR positions will be among the first to be outsourced to AI. However, jobs focused on customer interaction and software development are not expected to be impacted in the coming years. This move by IBM raises a number of concerns about the future of work and the impact of AI on the workforce. On the one hand, AI can improve efficiency and reduce business costs, but on the other hand, this could lead to job losses for human workers. Additionally, there are concerns about fairness and diversity in the use of AI in employee selection and management. If hiring and firing decisions are based only on AI, there could be a risk of discrimination and exclusion of some categories of workers. IBM's decision to replace thousands of employees with AI raises many questions about the future of work and the impact of AI on the workforce. It is important for companies to find a balance between business efficiency and the protection of human workers, and that attention is paid to fairness and diversity in the use of AI in employee selection and management. The use of AI in human resource management activities can lead to numerous benefits, including the automation of personnel selection procedures, employee performance evaluations and training and career development planning. Furthermore, AI can improve business efficiency and reduce costs, allowing employees to focus on higher value-added activities. However, it's important to note that AI is not a panacea for all business problems. AI can improve efficiency and productivity, but it cannot completely replace human labor. Humans remain irreplaceable in managing customer relationships and solving complex problems that require intelligence and creativity.
Who is going to buy their products, also AI bots? Wasn't it Henry Ford who proposed better wages to create better customers? Yeah it's somewhat simplistic, but not entirely simplistic.
Industrial revolutions got rid of many manual workers at the time, and still countries kept generating other jobs that weren't there before. As an example software developers were not demanded a hundred years ago and today everyone needs an app that provides a service. It is alarming that companies like IBM get rid of many workers but eventually we will need way more jobs that apply to some other areas that are not known today. Either way I think this time AI is going to cut way too many jobs at once, and that might fire back when those people can't buy products anymore, then they will think about it twice. Right now they only think about the most profitable way for the company to generate profits but eventually that will lead to social problems, let's see. Maybe this is the great dystopian reset that many have been waiting for.
%% YES ,Henry Ford helped transform USA+ made city streets a lot cleaner. Horse fertilizer on streets was the first phase of '' green new deal'' Looks like IBM is getting proper payday;[below 200dma] . I see IBM tried to cut Ross perot pay when he became top salesman. Wanting to keep his sales work he offered to cut his commissions+ then the ''brains'' @ IBM capped his commissions. NO wonder Ross Perot started EDS with $1,000;IBM rejected that idea also LOL
The difference between the AI revolution and previous technological revolutions is that AI will be able to do all jobs. If new jobs are created, AI (plus robots) will be able to do them. There will be no need for human workers. Please tell me how this is incorrect!
%% Life is more complicated than a computer. Think that's why the self driving cars got confused killed 5 people+ 136 crashes?? I think so. NOT to worry, a human insurance agent may take your insurance premium , for a fee. MY 2 accurate computer systems cant even exactly agree on elementary 200dma; no problem , most any person could get more discretion that a computer. IF that IBM ''artificial intelligence'' was any good, they would have issued Ross Perot or his estate, an apology for their past stupidity, see post #4, here. Good, human question.
It is incorrect in the way that AI does not invent anything, for that you need human beings. AI is a tool that uses what is available nowadays but eventually a human being will invent something new, completely new that the AI is not aware of. Do something if you want to find out how capable an AI actually is: Ask an AI to pick an orange from a tree or harvest strawberries, or bake a cake. It will tell you the way to do it, but it will never get it done like a human being.
Pretty much this. Although it's not possible to say for certain whether superhuman AGI will be possible, it seems worryingly likely at the current juncture. People applying reasoning pertaining to previous industrial revolutions seem to discount the possibility that every single human can be made redundant. That allows for paradise or hell depending on what we make of it, and assuming we don't lose control.
We have been automating humans forever. Look at this trading industry, just 20 years ago. Opportunities to milk it while others talk about it
