so I was running 938 and after I did a java update my charts quit working properly called ib and they said new java doesn't work with 938 so I upgraded to whatever it is 948 or something, and it had this obnoxious blue line across the top. The blue line serves no function other than to tell me what page I am on, and I can already see that just by looking at the page tab. Plus it makes my toolbar which I use all the time so small I can barely read it. so I call ib again and the guy says you should just use the web instead of the standalone, that's what we all do here everyday. So I go to ib website, start up web tws and pin the start up login to my desktop. And lo and behold, when I use that shortcut, it loads the old 938, which I prefer, and I can figure out how to make the charts sort of work. so then I go to the ib website, and web trader, and it loads some kind of page I can't even understand, it is horrible. so my question is, what do you have to do on the web if you are not using standalone to get back to that good old tws order entry screen I have been staring at for ten years, understand and really like? so to reiterate, my ib shortcut to the web loads 938, my ib icon loads the new standalone 948 which I don't like, and the ib web from ib's website loads some totally different trading screen. Looks like something you would find on Oanda or e trade.
Not so sure what you are asking, but if Mosaic opens and you want the classic layout, open the file column and then select Open classic layout. I also always open TWS online btw.
no, this is not mosaic. See for yourself. Go to ib's website, go to trading, go to browser based or web trader or whatever they call it and download it. You will see what I am talking about. And I know somewhere the old tws screen is out there, because they show it in the background on their pictures.
Your best bet is to go back to Java 7 and use TWS 938. To do that, read this link https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_revert.xml
I'm cool with 938, that is what I am running from the shortcut which goes to an old login for the web browser. I tried to reload 938 as my stand alone but it won't let you go back to an older version once you have the newer version. So my stand alone is 948 which I don't like because of the useless big blue line. I'm ok with the new java chart problem, I found a screwy work around, and I am not a big chart guy. Just check them to find out what happened when I was asleep or away. what I want to know is, how do you get back to the old tws screen now if you go to ib's website and login to the current webtrader? Try it, you'll see what I mean. It's a totally different screen, all messed up, impossible to decipher. I don't need the new screen, but I just worry what if something happens to my old 938? What will I do?
I feel your pain. IB's changes in the TWS don't always make it better. That being said, have you tried the following? File --> Global Configuration --> Display --> Toolbar --> Check "Simplify menu and toolbar" I think that is what I did to get back some real estate that TWS decided to inexplicably gobble up. It doesn't recover everything, but it was a decent compromise for me given that I was forced to upgrade. Note that when you select this, some of the menu options disappear. For example, the audit trail options. So if you feel like something is missing, then uncheck "simplify menu and toolbar", do what you need to do, and then check that box again.
ok, thanks, I'll try that when I get settled down, no, audit and trail are not important to me (until they are.) I'll give that a try tomorrow.
Addendum: Because you don't have the simplify checkbox checked right now, to get to that option I think the Global Configuration option will not be under File, rather it will be under Edit.
wow man, I just gave it a try, there is no "file" at the top. The only "file" is my google file. I mean this thing is messed up. There is no "file" or "edit" or anything else we are use to. Have you tried it? Go to ib's website, go to trading, go to webtrader and see what you get. It would be nice to know I am not the only one.
Sorry for the confusion. I am talking about your personal setup, not the web setup. You said you updated TWS and then suddenly a huge bar was taking up lots of space. And that is what I am referring to.
