IB TWS - Chart - Gain as Percentage

Discussion in 'Trading Software' started by HappyTrader, Jan 30, 2017.

  1. TWS Charting lets me see how a symbol's value has changed over time.
Is it possible to configure it so that it shows me in percentage gain versus absolute dollar amounts?

This makes it easier to compare multiple symbols together.

    Thank you.

  2. You can add "secondary" stock series to the chart, either other tickers or indexes for comparison. Check under chart settings.

  3. Yes, but that does not show percentage on the axis, only absolute dollar amounts.

When you draw a line it should tell you the % loss/gain from start of line to the endpoint...

But a little brainpower will be more efficient ;)

  5. What TWS does allow you to do is to create a so-called "Virtual Security". Here you can enter a formula to calculate what you want.
Chart Settings > Chart Parameters > select "Virtual Security" at the top of this window. This opens a box where you can enter the formula you want. Then you have to give it a unique name and the graph of this security appears.

  6. Yup, tried that too, but it still shows absolute value rather than % volume.

I really just want to see: What was the % gain of SPY over the last year/6months/9months/etc. as a graph.

Finance.google.com does it and it's a nice way to compare relative gains.
