Hello, I was updating my order this morning and somehow my long order filled in as a short in an illiquid (25 cent spread) US stock. Thankfully I realized it after few seconds and cancelled the remaining order immediately. I had to cover my short and lost $200 in less than a minute. This has never happened to me before. I'm not sure whether It was my own mistake or TWS's bug. Has anyone else experienced this sort of mistakes or bug before? Thanks. To be clear I am not accusing IB of any wrong doing. I didn't even contact IB because 99%, it was my own mistake. I was talking to someone else while updating my order but I just can't believe it.
Triple check everything you do before you do it.. everyone has fat fingered trades.. review it 2 times again after execution.. if mistaken trade was made correct it and move on
What price did you buy it for?!? Or did you buy your bid on the ask that you were asking for the bid you just bought? lol
I was bidding $45.05 for 500 shares. I clicked on the bid, which created a sell order, but forgot to switch to buy. I wanted to add another 500 shares. Instead, I got an execution to both buy and sell 500 shares at the same time.
I've done it too. I only trade with IB WebTrader, but I wish that they would simply color the submit box background green for going long or red for going short. That would serve as a nice second check. Another mistake that I occasionally make is when I am entering a trade and I type in the midprice, then sometimes the quote auto-updates to the bid and I end up selling at the bid. I wish once typing in the box, it stops updating.
