I used the unbalanced butterfly template to setup an order. Then I modified one of the strike prices and the line gets highlighted and the order does not update. How do I get rid of the highlighting?
I think it’s a bug. Happens to me quite often, but not always. Usually in the past it happened when changing expiry date from weeklies to monthlies and vice-versa, as IB may be looking them up in different type of option chains. But later this bug started showing up, as if replacing any option with any other isn’t somehow compatible. The only way I found to deal with it, was to remove auch leg and add it back from the option chain.
Always ALWAYS remove all legs and set up all legs of a combo from scratch whenever you need to make a modification. The IB Strategy Builder has a lot of problems and is never able to update perfectly whenever you make a change. If you trade combos that could have devastating consequences. I lost count how many messages that I have sent in the Message Centre telling them about the bugs in the Strategy Builder. Over time, some got fixed but some still didn't and some new ones came up with each new version. Remove all legs and start from anew is the only fail-safe way to make sure all modifications are correctly reflected, I find.
This is one area where TastyWorks and ThinkOrSwim definitely have IB beat. I'd imagine that a lot of people that trade options use the strategy builder and at this point in time, it should just work. One should be able to easily adjust a leg and see the effect. IB should really fix this.
They'll introduce a dozen new features nobody asked for and meanwhile ignore glaring issues that have been pointed out to them for years
Looks like the work-around is to simply not use the option templates. Just add and move legs individually. The combo builder should be updated. It should show the effect (payoff profile) of adding / removing / adjusting legs in real time.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I thought I was the only one who had no use for those useless features that just show that they are "working". Merry Xmas!!
Yeah you can't use the template. They will f*** up your combos for sure. You have to add leg by leg. At least that is now working. Before that used to be buggy as well. When you add all the legs and then when you remove a leg and re-add another it would f*** up the whole combo.
