IB Risk Navigator risk graph full of bugs?

    Hi guys,

I am trying to use risk navigator to manage my portfolio of short options. However, I always come across strange behavior of the risk graph. Just wanted to check, if this is something others experience as well.

For instance, when plotting the dotted line for the expiration date, it sometimes does not match the position I have on. Also for the total portfolio it for some expiration dates it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Also quite strange is the behavior in the what-if scenarios, where you can manipulate your portfolio. For example I deselect one position, which alters the graph, but when selecting again, the graph show a completely different plot than the original one.

With such behavior this is a completely worthless piece of software. If it did actually work the way it was intended I guess I would really learn to like it.

    Some feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

    Best regards!

It's buggy and I don't trust the results. I've got a screenshot of Risk Nav showing short-dated options with obviously wrong greeks. It shows OTM call deltas increasing for higher strikes. A way, way OTM call with a value of 1 tic ($10) shows a theta of -$29,665. Not sure how that's possible.....I guess that would be a good sale!

  3. Hi,
I have had similar experiences and also find the whole process of setting up a combo option trade that you have to then pull up in risk nav is a laborious process. The software says you can save your risk nav file but it simply defaults to your whole portfolio which is far from helpful.
Have taken it up with customer service but they were vague about if and when these issues would be fixed. Looks like IB have spent their time on developing the strategy lab, probability lab and vol lab, but forgotten the basics that serious traders need to operate.

well, at least I am not mistaken here. the graphs are just not reliable. even adding a theoretical position in a what if scenario and then taking it off again results in a different risk graph than before... i have contacted CS, but so far they have not taken up the matter...
