IB major bug

  1. This was reported and is being ignored.

Create an order, route to any exchange.

    Pause the order.

Change to a different exchange (use destination field and dropdown)

    Reactivate order

New order goes to ORIGINAL selection, not new, displayed route.

It is not clear to me on any trading platform that you can cancel/replace and change the route. Price, quantity, time in force yes, route no.

  3. I guess the platform shouldn't be letting you change the route then . It's showing one thing and doing another. Not good.

And why shouldn't you be able to change the route. If you're stopping the original order, the new order can be completely different . All you're doing is avoiding having to create another new order line.

I think because the order lies on an exchange and to change it to a different exchange you need to cancel it and then enter another order. While resting on an exchange you can cancel replace certain items. It's not impossible to do it's just not typical

  5. When you pause an order on TWS it is CANCELLED. It doesnt rest on the exchange.

Reactivating the order is the same as a new order, so all parameters should be changeable.

Even if that wasn't the case, if the platform is showing one thing and doing another , that in itself is a bug. Good luck getting them to fix it .

  6. Can you give an exact example? I tried with a stock and once I sent and later paused the direct routed order, i could no longer change the destination in the drop down like you can when you first create it.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. Seems to me that if a "paused" order in TWS always results in it being CXL'd at the exchange, it should be possible to change the directed exchange before un-pausing the order. I just get around this by CXL'ing the order in TWS and duplicating the order, changing fields before transmitting the new order. Not that big deal for me, because I've set up some quick keyboard shortcuts for managing my orders.
