What would you do? Just let speculators with less dollars than sense gamble recklessly in a market that has had 3 successive limit down days?
Did it go up again? IB page shows ES intraday initial margin as $22,282.40 https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=26662
Thats insane . They raised the mes from $1100 or so to $2220 ish. Many brokers were at $40 per mes intraday Then $400.
hafez50-With all due respect, the front month future is limit down 128.50 points. 128.50*$50 = $6425. If you were long 1 ES future, and your account equity was below $0, I could not liquidate you right now. Would you, with your money as the FCM, take less than the CME margin right now for trading overnight with little or no liquidity?
Raising margin is not crazy but wise. As a customer of IB who doesn't use insane leverage, I feel safe with my money in IB.
