Nasdaq OMX on the Stockholm Exchange offers a Bitcoin tracker ETN that I have been eyeing and am now ready to trade. It's traded in both krona and euro symbols. IB doesn't offer any margin on this foreign stock. I aim to start trading this symbol with margin by any means necessary. Even entering into agreements with a prop shop provided i don't have to take any Series tests beforehand or lockup my money for longer than 6 months. Hold Brothers told me I have to pass some Series exams. That's doable but I want to start trading this name on margin TOMORROW. Any suggestions? I've asked around and it's difficult to find a US broker who offers margin on this European stock (why?). Could be the relatively thin liquidity of the symbol. I don't want to send tens of thousands of dollars to one of those crypto exchanges so I can get buggered by some hacker ala BTC-e, crypto-corzine style.
Open an account at a bitcoin exchange that offers margin trading. www.bitfinex.com had banking problems a month ago so maybe you should avoid that one at the moment. There are others.
Won't send more than a few k to any of these unregulated exchanges. They can LEGALLY steal your bitcoins or cash. GBTC's premium is so high that it's more of a buy and hold than trading vehicle. Will watch it for now, but assumed the correlation to actual btc was too skewed to trade effectively.
ok... you are onto something with gbtc. High beta to the actual btc price, but trade worthy. Is it margin-able? we shall see...
Bitcoin exchanges are perfectly ok. Transfer the bitcoin to a wallet on your pc as soon as you buy them.
But in order to trade them on the exchange they cannot be in your wallet. Wallet is for storage only, and 1:1 crypto trading, but margin trading is strictly on the exchanges and i don't like the fact that hackers regularly target these exchanges for theft and there is no SIPC if your bitcoin disappears from your account.
BTC dropped from 3K to 2K within a couple days in June. Do you really need margin to make $$ on these moves? GDAX or Gemini are as safe as most the brokers out there..(I would lean toward the later)
