Back when I started trading markets just had A day session. If you wanted to trade in the middle of the night you had to trade a foreign market. It was great. When the bell rang you were free from the screen until the next day and it was much easier to focus on other things for a while. You did risk some market adjustments from events that happened overnight and had to be instantly adjusted for on the next open but the “hours off” between day sessions really helped keep the stress down. I’ve been watching BTC lately and it’s hard to not watch it overnight since it’s a global market that never sleeps. I haven’t been glued to a screen like this in the last 20 years of trading. I fear the next few months are gonna drain me mentally. Just venting.
May as well be saying you miss the time before smartphones or when everyone used to go to church... them days is gone. Sounds like you need to either shorten your holding period to a reasonable workday, or else lengthen it to where position adjustments aren't required after hours.
I thought the CME created the Globex in the late 1990s for futures trading overnight? I remember the guy that tutored me in futures trading in the 1990s used to check prices on ES overnight all the time using his Reuters Satellite which got its data from Globex.
I typically hold positions for several days, rarely day trading. BTC is the only market I’ve traded where I’m worried about overnight moves. On the run up I had alerts set and I was waking up to increase my position. It was all good but I’m exhausted. Unfortunately I tried day trading the correction and gave a lot back. So far my take is that you only have late Friday night to Sunday night to relax with BTC.
CME overnights started shortly after I started trading, but it’s extremely rare for a substantial move in the overnight. I’ve been comfortable risking it.
most stock and bond trading is still primarily US hours. I t sounds like Bitcoin is the problem. Ive traded both the es futures and forex and these are like bitcoin...you need to watch over night (particularly the Asian trading hours). When I needed to unglue myself from screens I stopped trading forex and es futures
If you can't even give a fuck after 20 years of trading ... I wonder what this craft ever taught you. We might be slave to the tape but ... We definitely need to be bossy. PS I also (swing) trade cryptocurrencies, & it only takes 15min a day to screen, buy, sell. Sure I could watch every tick 24/7 but ... I DON T GIVE A FUCK
