I have ADHD, (a fair bit) and you won’t see me running for office.

I am not the only poster on ET with this double edged "superpower" but I think many don't recognize it in adults. It was not really a thing yet in psychology when we were kids.

While I’ve channeled it successfully in many ways, I lack key executive functions essential for long term leadership. Like Trump, I’m interest-driven, not importance-driven. I can push through tasks I don't enjoy but often need help to complete them. At any given time, I have half a dozen active projects and even more on hold.

Thankfully, I’m an outlier in my family, who are mostly importance-driven. Their steadyness is a good influence on me. My daughter is like me, so I make sure to finish some projects to set a good example. I have a normal conscience and feel embarrassed if I let people down*. Trump, on the other hand, seems to lack this, often launching into ventures driven more by immediate interest than by importance.

Often people think I'm a Leonardo DaVinci lite version. I have so many plates spinning and because I'm not rushing around like a maniac, they are tricked into thinking I'm a bit of a genius. I have art projects running with engineering projects, with business projects and I'm making deviled ham today as well as fixing a printer, that was before 9am.

I'm a genius.. At spinning plates. But... I get enough done, with help from my assistant/apprentice to make more than I'm losing on unfinished ideas.

Now maybe you can see why Trump should not be POTUS again? That's a job that requires an importance-driven person, just with SOME input from interest-driven types.

Micro-managing from a jack of all trades, master of none or few = chaos.

*It is easy for me to burn off excess energy helping other people as I tend to complete stuff then, not go "squirrel!" and start a new personal project.

    https://www.drjohnkruse.com/reflexi...t-donald-trump-can-teach-us-about-adult-adhd/

A chat GPT summary of the above article.

Dr. John Kruse argues that President Donald Trump’s behavior aligns with the characteristics of Adult ADHD, which he believes offers a coherent explanation for Trump’s impulsive, inconsistent, and emotional actions. Kruse suggests that ADHD affects Trump’s executive functions, such as attention, emotional regulation, and impulse control, leading to erratic decisions and public outbursts. While acknowledging that ADHD does not account for Trump's specific political views or prejudices, Kruse contends that understanding ADHD is crucial to interpreting Trump’s behavior. He urges a more compassionate and informed discussion about ADHD, especially given its under-recognition and its impact on millions of adults.

Kruse also highlights how Trump's ADHD-driven behavior influences public anxiety and destabilizes societal norms. Despite clear evidence of ADHD traits, the mental health establishment and political circles avoid addressing this diagnosis, though it may help explain and respond to his unpredictable actions. Ultimately, Kruse emphasizes that recognizing Trump’s ADHD could reduce stigma around the condition and better prepare society to manage its broader effects on leadership and governance.

Is it important to grovel before your creditors, now that the gov't has intentionally driven itself into unrecoverable deficit.
Kamala cackles while on her knees, is that your choice for groveler.
Trump has too much energy to accept the chains of austerity or taxation without true representation.

Tweeting or posting at 2-4 a.m.? Not ideal at all for a POTUS.

ADHD, like Trump’s, can lead to erratic behavior. When I started trading, I kept an accountability journal on Instagram. Six months in, I had thousands of followers without knowing what I was doing, and it became a huge distraction, so I shut it down.

Social media is terrible for ADHD
, it fragments your mind. Like Trump, I found that ANGER can make you hyper-fixate*, but it’s corrosive. This is why Trump’s midnight-to-4am rants are dangerous. I’m lucky my case is milder or better controlled, but he's not fit for responsible high office.

*which is a merciful relief from having a score of different subjects bouncing inside the mind like a cloud of insects. Periodic hyper-fixation is the only rest you really get.

  7. So there's now adult ADHD. I guess the profession needs new topics to get published.

I only started saying it out loud a couple of months ago thinking it was just some bollocks and anyways, by 40 if you haven't your bugs worked out you are a retard etc.

But I made a slightly older friend who is very bright and he convinced me I had it. He is 57 and needs the ADHD meds to make a living. Has a therapist. Not going there but I accept it explains a lot. Also my daughter.. She escaped notice at school, mostly as a lot of her education was outside the US.

I was a wildlife ranger and could stay waiting on one spot with bugs crawling over me for two days. Attention I had so ADHD made no sense.

But.... It's a little paradoxical. The poor kids these days get diagnosed with it by default but it was not a thing in the 1970s (which was good).

For all practical purposes I don't have the D For disorder in ADHD. Maybe douchbag sometimes but other than it taking me longer to find a patient enough woman, my life is pretty good. I enjoy the creative problem solving, MacGyvering. Money is good too.

The H for hyperactivity does not necessarily mean physically, it is mental hyperactivity. This causes the attention defecit as thoughts draw you away from the matter at hand unless you go into the "Hyper Focus/Fixation". That other side of the coin.

But I don't have the full dark triad Trump has. I'm not driven by demons having had perfectly good parents when Trump's own made all five of their children psychological basket cases, to greater and lesser degrees.

And because I'm not a true sociopath, I would not inflict myself on society in unmeasured doses running for office.

The weekly cycle of the Apprentice show was ideal for Trump, new stuff and shallow business problems to opine on every week. But POTUS is not the Apprentice.

I guess I'll need to talk about his office next, the real one which is a mess..

Speaks for itself. My desk has similar, in chronological order, of when I put things down, system. I don't have so much stuff around. It is pretty obvious that he organized it just before the cameras arrived to show off, narcissism there. I can identify with wanting all my stuff visible, but I'm better organized than Trump.

Laying things on sofas instead of a display case? Kinda unnecessarily slovenly. Certainly not a CEO office.

I imagine his 'musty carpet' is a result of not letting cleaners in very often should they move anything.
