I've fussed with the transition from W7-to-W10 for about a year. I've had to reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 10, 8 F'n Times... to fix the problem of the System Restore Function failing!. In the future, I'll just leave it "failed". Too much trouble to keep fixing it. (If you're having this problem too, I suggest fixing it then turning off "protection". One time I had it fail badly enough that I couldn't get past the failure notice... too late to disable, and had no choice but to reinstall Windows right then.) NEVER had such a failure in the 8 years I used W7. W10... POS!
Use something like https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree to backup the drive Windows is installed on before any Windows Update to avoid having to completely reinstall the operating system after something fails.
