i can not short spy on tws

it says "the contract is not available for short". quite strange, spy borrow interest is just 0.25%. considering the volume of spy is so large, it is not normal there is no share for short.

 

No need to borrow to short SPY, just buy its inverse ETF instead: symbol SH

that fact there is no shortable shares of spy from tws means too many traders take a short position on s&p?

trend2009, I also saw this last Fri, 1 Nov, and now this morning 09h00 CST.

This is very unusual in my experience w/ IB.

SH is an alternative, but not so good if you do a lot of annotation of intraday SPY charts, use ChartTrader, and want to look at the same intraday chart for longs and shorts at precise transaction levels, esp if combining the short w/ an options position.

IB chat informs that it should be available Tue (tomorrow); there are clearing issues.

 

Still nothing available. This looks like an engineered problem.
