how to trade FOP globex in interactive brokers

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by klattermusen, Jun 18, 2021.

  1. [IMG] hi

I'm using tws workstation with IB.

I saw someone trade puts on CAD FOP Jul 16 2021. ((just a tweet somewhere - using a diff brokerage)...

It's basically a bearish position on the Canadian dollar short term. How do I access these foreign exchange options in IB? Its a simplistic problem on my part no doubt....I'm currently just trading regular stock options...

I tried entering FOP or CAS etc but no luck.

Any help appreciated...truly dumb i know...

  2. It is an option on a futures contract. So in TWS you select the CAD futures contract. And then drill down to its options (similar to what you would do to select the options on a stock).
Alternatively you go here: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=463 , search for the CAD futures contract and then select the options for it.

    ZBZB

In IB TWS optiontrader enter the symbol.

  4. Thank you - the CAD option brought up the futures.

But when I tried to pull up USD futures I could not find it - is it another symbol....it really needs to be more intuitive lol

  5. What do you mean by "USD futures"? The CAD future is the future expected exchange rate of CAD expressed in USD. So the USD is the reference currency. You can't have a USD future with USD as reference.

  6. Ah ok. I get it. The USD is basically the sun and all other currencies are planets...

  7. Never heard of it. But if it’s anything out of US Futures and Futures Options, you can get low pricing plans for them.
