How to track the "smart money"?

Discussion in 'Trading' started by farmerjohn1324, Aug 29, 2022.

  1. I had all but given up on trading after taking some losses that outweighed my gains recently.

However, a few days prior to the Jackson Hole speech by Powell, I read this article saying hedge funds are placing bets on interest rates in record amounts. This caused me to trust their judgement and short the S&P futures. As expected, Powell was hawkish and this upset the "wishful thinking" crowd who thought that one month worth of better inflation numbers would cause the Fed to ease up.

The S&P has dropped significantly since then and I've made a good amount of money. Currently at about $6,300 profit on a ESU22 futures contract.

It got me thinking... Maybe following what the "smart money" does can be a good strategy. How can I follow this? Aside from just randomly coming across news articles.

    Here's the article...

If you find out let the hedge funds know.

They are likely continuously trying to outguess each other.

Last time i checked you were arrogant and doing all kinds of nonsense instead of trying to listen, thus, such an outcome, is the least surprising.

  4. Trying to listen to you? Is that what I should be doing?

  5. I am currently outdoors and cant help you with links but you can track commitment of traders reports. They are official. However they are not reliable since data is actualised once a week, report is a week delayed so smart money has it easy to hide what it is doing short term. However if they turn HEAVILY bullish or bearish they can not hide it.

Depends on how open your mind is, your current attitude and how much ptsd you have from trading the markets.

In general, being on the side of smart money either with skill or by luck is where the high probability trades are to be found and booked.

  8. Was there an answer to my question in that post somewhere?

  10. You try to talk like your Buddha all while saying nothing of useful substance. What do you want me to say? Thanks?
