Attached is what is happening at 2024.09.04. I checked the top economic events in the US, nothing important whether data release or what is coming at sep 04.

So I was thrown out by this large minute bar.

And my questions is how to get the news for major events, so that I can avoid those volatile times ?

  2. Look at Nvidia stocks. That triggered multiple events yesterday.

You can get news from a calendar like this one.
    https://www.forexfactory.com/calendar

That is useful for CPI reports and FED announcements.

Also monitor the VIX, that will give you the panic sentiment.

But it is hard to be ready for massive drops. Those events normally drag everyone in.

You check the ladder for thinning bids / offers and a wider spread than usual.

Yes, there are many economic calendar you can check. But there seems to be many events off the calendar. Like revision of job market data, which can catch you off guard.

How to deal with those ?

  8. Use a stop loss. If long futures in a heavy position buy put options that is what they are designed for.
