How to apply for a margin account at IB Canada?

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by nwoptions, Jun 17, 2023.

  1. Hi all, I would like to sell Cash Secured Puts but from my understanding, this requires a margin account.

I've looked everywhere on Interactive Brokers website, my account page and on Google but I can't find an application page. I can see trading permissions but that's about it.

    Can you please help me?

Also, from my understanding, I need a at least $2000 USD for a margin account. Is that true?

    Thanks

The day before yesterday you had no idea about stocks that move 1 or 2 ticks throughout an entire trading session. Then yesterday you "cracked the code" and today you want to open a margin trading account with 2k (assuming your funding balance will be close to 2k else you would not ask about the account open minimum)?

I highly recommend you to LEARN and acquire more knowledge before you blow hard earned money away, which I can guarantee you will happen at your current state...

If you go to IB Canada web site you have the choice of login or open an account.

  5. Thanks for the reply. I have a cash account with well over $2000USD but it won't let me open a margin account. There's no option to open it in the account settings area.

No need to be obnoxious. I simply suggested that you should learn more before you risk your hard earned money. The timing you display in this forum appears very rushed and lacks a clear roadmap.

There is only way one to get the guaranteed correct information fast, call your broker.

  9. Just open a support ticket (webmail or email) and ask your broker.
