How much do locates typically cost?

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by pragmatic-trader, May 28, 2020.

  1. How much is the usual price for locates with the retail trading brokers? Is $0.02-$0.07 per share a normal range?

If a symbol is hard to borrow, and you request a locate from Wedbush Securities, our clearing broker, those locates have no cost. If you can't get the free one, we offer premium locates from Velocity Capital with a tool built into Lightspeed Trader. That cost can vary. Your range might be typical but it can cost more or less. BTW, a locate is just that. It allows you to short a HTB symbol. That is not a borrow for overnight.

Though usually couple cents, just be careful with what happens later if you hold overnight.

Don’t know, just copied some random example from the net to show the price range, while other examples also show $0.01 - $0.02 locate fee, so it’s just generic price range. It can vary for specific stocks at different times.
