I thought this question deserved its own thread. I think it comes down to common sense. Ask yourself the following questions. Why is the poster posting. I know it's impossible to get into someone else's mind just like it's impossible to know why someone is trading, but you can kind of get a feel from the post. Might be a good time to ask yourself the same question. Does the post have any value? Can you learn anything from the poster? Does the poster answer questions. If a poster sets off your BS meter, give other posters the benefit of the doubt, they can probably spot a phony also.
When people say they are traders but when I see a lot of their timestamp posts they are constantly posting during market hours. Many people here also have clear comprehension and literacy issues or they purposefully extrapolate a sentence out of a clear connected idea and try to refute it by something that is not relevant for the sake of looking correct.
I discovered one last week. He is an expert on inheritance law, margin, options, order entry and trader psychology. The list is incomplete. I can predict when looking at new threads whether he will post or not.
Yes it's important we figure out who these losers and trolls are, or they could mess with our emotions which could affect our self esteem and make us fail
trading does not require much hands on..... unless it is scalping. for example i have long positions in gold audusd and eurusd. the latter two i may hold for more than 6- 12 hours...depending on whether i think the trend is up. gold right now is in a range so it requires some attention but it is a wide range so ...no need to be staring at it.
Deaddog, here is a prime example or people posting whatever they want and giving advice regardless of their trading skills. Literally 3min ago Padutrader wrote this in a different thread: "now i am slowly getting profitable because i know what not to do." He just straight up admitted he is only becoming profitable recently yet he is telling me that trading doesn't require much hands on unless you are scalping which is just udder BS. I stand by my point, if a "trader" constantly posts shit on a forum during market hours I highly doubt they are a profitable trader or a trader at all. Imagine working at any investment firm, hedge fund, algo firm, it doesn't matter. If an employee fucks around on shit that has nothing to do with watching the market carefully they are getting fired. Trading is not "meh, currency pair, 6-12hours timeframe, whatever happens happens". Thread is here, page 7 https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/am-i-wasting-my-time.347128/page-7#post-5146576
