Isn't that what Carl Ichan and Bill Ackman do? Though theirs is not a rumor but they do help spread the news about their own book.

Yes but they manage billions, so it would make sense that their words move the market, but a random anonymous guy moving the market, bizarre.

I have seen this happen many times during my trading career, especially in industries susceptible to rumors eg oil...

Small cap stocks that trade under a million shares I can see, but $3 Billion, $10 billion, $55 billion companies?? Wonder how much he made off this BS, big money could have been made with OPEX today.

Pretty easy, bots crawling twitter and reacting to his posts.

If that's the case, than any one can do it, I should give it a try, buy a boat load of calls then tweet.

You might get into trouble for that, others have before.

I don't know, does freedom of speech not apply? you're saying you hear a rumor and leave it at that, not: I'm hearing a rumor and then telling others they should start buying, I don't know, maybe the route to go is let him tweet the rumors, and piggyback on those.

There's something wrong with that DAMS Consulting tweet spam thing...

    It has a fixed format.

(blank) "rumor" (blank) "will make a (blank) bid for company"...

And the rest is fill-in. That is not a human typing. That is generated by a machine. It did not pass the Turing Test.
