I set the TWS layout on my desktop on a wide display and when I log in using my laptop, it is all messed up and I just want a simpler layout. So how do I set set and save TWS layout locally on each computer?
Definitely a good idea to backup your settings. I have lost thousands of dollars due to mistakes made largely in part because of how confusing and shitty the TWS layout is. Just today I accidentally messed up my settings with an open option position on SPX. It suddenly caused me to panic as I had to revert to the "Classic TWS" layout and then it becomes super hard to try and close out positions without getting screwed on bid/ask etc. I also must have accidentally been long an extra contract because the P/L numbers kept changing on me after I thought I closed everything out! I decided to jump over to the mobile app to see what the hell was really going on. Luckily I didn't lose as much today as I could have.
Easy, when you change computers just keep changing the settings to your liking and it should stay while you're using that computer.
StatGuy - TWS already backs up your layout. One for each day of the week. Go to File ->Layout/Setting Recovery and pick the previous day. It won't include today's changes but it will be close. I use it when I accidentally close a window in my layout or I'm trying out different layouts and want to revert back.
Yeah I was able to do that after the fact. It's hard to remember these things when your mind fogs up as things are moving fast haha.
