I can drive manual but not very used to it and often stall. i change gear one at a time - clutch pressed, gear change, clutch released. That takes 3-4 seconds. If I hasten to release the clutch, it often stalls. So how does one accelerate? I can’t accelerate from roundabouts and lights, making me drive like a pussy.
I've owned about 26 cars and about 23 of them were stick shifts,I hate automatics. Just be sure to give it a little gas as you let out the clutch, especially 1st gear.
Start out in 2nd. Seriously. It will lag a little till the revs and speed catch up. Same if you have to "pop the clutch" to start with a dead battery. Anyway didn't know hardware meant someone with wheels on it!!!
LOL I dont envy drivers who live in San Francisco with all those steep hills in the downtown area. On a steep hill when the light turns green and you have to let out the clutch to proceed it can get a bit dicey. Rev the engine as you let out the clutch or you will roll backwards into the car behind you.
That is why you always, always leave plenty of room in front of you ... as a "launchpad" in case you need to burn rubber slamming gas pedal/popping clutch wham bam.
Yet another advantage to driving a stick shift. If it wont start and you can get the car rolling about 8 mph, maybe a hill or pushing it, you can pop the clutch with the ignition in the on position and the car will start.
I love my manual transmission cars but to be honest I’m starting to convert. My auto cars are often more fun to drive than my standards. Less hassle and it’s pretty fun to click the paddle.
