Hopefully margin impact for multiple positions combined can be calculated

Now the margin impact works for single positions. But if I have a covered call, or a strangle, a spread, basically any of them complex positions, it's not possible to see the margin impact of these positions combined. I know I can open risk navigator, check/uncheck the positions there and see the margin impact but it's not very convenient.

You can right-click on a complex combo in your portfolio and check margin impact.
IB will simulate selling your position to check the margin.
The margin on each combo is different at different times and depends on your other positions, so they have to check all your positions to do “what-if” analysis.

Thanks for the reply. Even though it's in the wrong forum.

I am not sure why but usually display in complex combo often not work for me. Is it because I didn't enter these positions at the same time or with the same order? In that case, would it be possible (or as a future feature) to select multiple positions and see the margin impact for the selection?

Yup, you’d need to buy them together as a combo to see the margin impact on a combo. A slow workaround may be to create a new combo manually and try to sell it, just to see the margin impact on the order confirmation screen.
The feature(s) you mention would be useful for me too, but IB is very slow to enhance their already complex platform that is easier to break than enhance.
For now I’m using their API to code some of my own tools/functions when needing such features.

wow. Would it be possible to share the github repo, if it exists? Then maybe I can fork it and adapt it to my own need. That would be so helpful.

Not really, I have too many small functions and proprietary features mixed up within a massive project that has many dependencies and cannot be made public.
It was just an idea, as IB does provide API for some stuff.

ah, ok. Haha. thanks anyway. I will ask about API in a separate thread.

It’s not a big deal though. You can know the margin impact from your broker too if at all it has that feature.
