I was wondering what index options there are to trade the FTSE 100 and ASX 200 that are most actively traded on their respectively stock exchanges.

Preferably I want to find index options with different expiry dates.

I tried looking for index options on the ASX but I can't find many that were actively traded.

Who is your broker? FTSE options are liquid on the ice Europe exchange. The exchange fee is $110 a month or £110

Yes I am aware of that. I am looking for FTSE / ASX options that also expire Monday, Wednesday and Friday ideally.

Index options and equity options are rarely traded in any countries, and not even that much in the US. In the US, SPX options have big volume (2 million per day) but not on farther out dates like 12 or more months where bid/ask spreads also become unreasonable, while you won’t see much volume on a minute chart either - so many people also ask why the largest index in the world doesn’t have enough options traded. And most of indexes don’t have much volume at all. For example popular US indexes like NDX and DJX have less than 10000 options traded each day, so if you spread them over different strikes and expirations then there isn’t much volume.
So I imagine options on Australian indexes trading at a few thousand volume per day, which means some options will have several trades and other options none. You especially won’t see much volume on a minute or even hourly chart at all.
What type of volume do you expect, btw?

In the past I’ve looked at some European countries and the number of all options traded in one particular country in an average day was 10-20, and it was on that country’s index because there were.no options on stocks due to lack of interest. Basically one guy in the whole country bought a few index options on any particular day.

Here is some ASX specific info:

I was just looking for Dax options volume but didn’t find clear info.
Though I thought you were looking at additional indexes in couple specific countries, while globally I’d look at Germany (Dax), UK, India and Japan.
India seems active just due to population and number of their trading-related posts on Quora.

FTSE Options expire 3rd Friday of the month at 10.15am
Option contract has nominal value of approx £70,000+ ($100,000)
Open Interest 2.2 million contracts, typically trades 30-50,000 contracts per day
Usually fairly liquid, tight spreads ...
