Makes you wonder if the boss went into the security office to review hours of tapes to find something on employees to determine where to save money instead of paying out bonuses...

Lets see...suspend that guy over there for eating a sandwich he didn't pay for.

Suspend that gal over there for eating two candle bars that fell out of the candy machine after she banged on it when it her candy bar got stuck after she purchased only one.

Suspend that guy over there for...

Wow, I just saved 1.5 million dollars in bonuses. :D

Going straight to the nuclear option was the right thing to do. If the bank had confronted him he'd have denied it. Then they'd have had an employee with access to all their systems plus a grudge. Who wants that?

Be careful about mental gymnastics I guess. Entirely possible the guy thought he made up for the cost of the sandwich by the value contributed to the company (and he may well have been right on that point).

  5. Welcome to at WILL employment.....in defense of the corporation, it could be construed as a character flaw the could migrate to task assignments. It could be presumed that there were several occurrences and the associate was informed by other staff members of the issue. Rule of thumb if it is the refuse container it is fair game.

How someone could risk their job over something so stupid is beyond me.

He should be fired. If a firm like Citigroup allowed it to happen, what does that tell its clients.

Nice front. They wanted to get rid of him and it was a good enough reason. He was the "head of high-yield bond trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa". You think a position like that would be vacated for some sandwiches, get real.

Depends on company culture. The interpretations already posted in this thread are good examples of how a certain situation can be interpreted in different ways.

Or it could be that he had too many enemies, who just couldn't resist stabbing him in the back. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there.
