.380 = $149 9mm, .40, and .45 = $169. Regardless of what anyone thinks about Hi-Point guns, they are likely worth it at these prices... even to skeptics. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hi-Point-Semiautomatic-Centerfire-Pistols/753245.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=/catalog/search.cmd?form_state=searchForm&N=0&fsch=true&Ntk=AllProducts&Ntt=Hi-point&x=10&y=6&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products&Ntt=Hi-point
I'm sure it is, because they are inexpensive. (To understand and accept the reason Hi-points are inexpensive and relatively "heavy" compared to others requires a bit of understanding of their blow-back design and the physics of inertia and mass.) Not the same as "cheap", however. Hi-Points are better than detractors claim. Personally, I like them. I can have 3 or 4 of them scattered about the house for the price of one Glock, S&W, or Colt. MY Hi-Points have performed nearly flawlessly*. *New, "out of the box", some claim the Hi-Points are a bit "sticky" about cycling.... as were mine until I did the following. Strip and take a little 800 grit paper to the edges of all articulating parts and surfaces. Some of the parts are stamped and leave almost imperceptible burrs on one side... which if sanded off make a big difference in reducing critical friction and in how they perform. Then, a little quality lube. Do that, take them to the range and see what you think. After the above "tune up", mine perform "smooth as a gravy sandwich". Accurate, too.
I wouldn't call Hi-Points saturday night specials. They are well-made if basic hand guns that should last a lifetime if maintained. Saturday nght specials were cheap revolvers or stamped semi auto pistols that often malfunctioned.
Thanks. I am seriously considering their carbine 9mm. I have the old Tec 9 but only shot it once-- now, that is a piece of junk-- i think i remember it costing about $190.00 at the time. surf
I don't know if you can get a carbine for $190 today. Cabelas has them for $349-$369 as regular price. Hi-Point pistols go on sale... $20-$30 off... a few times per year, but I haven't seen the carbines on sale. You can find them online for less, but by the time you pay for shipping and FFL transfer fee, not much diff than buying at Cabelas. Carbine shoots GREAT!
With some 147gr Hornady XTPs (JHP) out of the carbine, you should have any bad guys covered for home defense.
