Yahoo message boards went under. At least one thing I can say, on ER day, aside from a million idiots posting, there were some very informative posts with insightful commentary on the company in question. Where have all these folks gone? Doesn't anyone trade stocks anymore? ET is the number one Google hit. Why aren't they here chatting it up here? Today we had GOOGL, GOOG, BHI, AEP, BMY, CAT, CELG, DEO, ETFC, FCAU, F, .... blah blah blah... a dozen more... http://www.nasdaq.com/earnings/earnings-calendar.aspx Not one bit of discussion. These are big earnings reports! There's YUGE money to be made before and after. All we have here talking stocks is me, Phil, and Haji, Jamie J, Eganon, and MJ Fletcher. WTF? I guess everyone here is just an automated trader playing forex.... The money's in stocks and playing the earnings. Where did all the Yahoo'rs go?
I still see a few familiar handles on SeekingAlpha, but it is a very small fraction of what Yahoo MBs were.
More post's on ET about the SEC and insider trading then trading stocks.. throw in more posts crying about spreads being a nickel wide instead of a penny...Snowflakes everywhere...take control of the situation Vanzandt or time to reboot.
Why did they go under? It doesn't cost any money to have message boards, why not leave them up? My memory is failing me here but did AOL use to have stock message boards as well? I seem to remember posting on them but not sure if it was YHOO or AOL.
The famous teen pump-and-dumper Jonathan Lebed used Yahoo message boards exclusively back in the late 90s. Every morning before school he'd create a bunch of new Yahoo IDs (he kept getting banned) and pump the penny stock he had chosen. Knowing such people lurked there ought to tell you something.
Hahaha. Hows life treatin' ya RRY? Always a pleasure to see your grouchy ass pipe in. Yeah, there was a lot of whining. But some of the boards had some pretty strong regular posters that really followed the particular stock in question and posted info when the most minute thing on the inner workings of the company changed. Especially stocks that were somewhat off the radar. Good info from a fundamental point of view. Now that being said ...if Cramer pumped a stock... it was game over. Idiot-fest.
Yea - I was thinking the same thing this morning - where have all the stock traders gone? They don't know that they are missing out on. I for one like to trade stocks - so there.. I said it! Futures & Forex, yea I trade those also - But my biggest gains to date have been through stock trading.
