He is sick of mind, impetuous, arrogant, belligerent and dangerous

  1. "A former Republican senator is calling on lawmakers to use the 25th Amendment to kick President Donald Trump out of office.

He is sick of mind, impetuous, arrogant, belligerent and dangerous,” Gordon Humphrey, who represented New Hampshire from 1979 to 1990, said in a letter to his state’s members of Congress obtained by Manchester ABC station WMUR.

Humphrey said the president’s “sick and reckless conduct could consume the lives of millions,” and he should be relieved of his duties “at the earliest possible date”

His letter calls on lawmakers to support legislation in the House, HR 1987, which would create a commission to invoke the 25th Amendment and “carry out a medical examination of the President to determine whether the President is mentally or physically unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office.”

    Humphrey is already receiving pushback.

Neither of the state’s two House representatives ― Annie Kuster and Carol Shea-Porter, both Democrats ― support the commission out of concern it would set a dangerous precedent, spokespeople said."

Dangerous precedent aside (i.e. the GOP will ensure any future Dem president will have a rectal exam every week and the vice-versa) Trump really does have some classic early mid-stage Alzheimer's disease symptoms. He father died of it also and Trump is the oldest president ever to take office. Regan had clear dementia by term two, anyone who lived through the 80s remembers this.

The disease starts to degrade the brain often 20+ years before and in 20/20 hindsight seeing my own aunt's disease progression, I really think Trump needs an MRI.

In theory I very much support a businessman having a go as president and understand the cherrybomb down the hill's toilet effect many who voted for him want. Fiery rhetoric, all good stuff but not if it is coming from organic brain damage. We need some assurance on this.

My aunt who would not hurt a fly became physically violent (slaps) and would verbally lash out in anger for five years before we suspected dementia. It is a gradual process.

We do not let airline pilots work at his age for safety reasons. Most corporations would expect a CEO to retire by 71. Congress should be making sure that the man is physically fit but we have bi-partisan cowardice on the subject.

I think the only person who is going to end up in the mental ward is Gordon Humphrey.

  3. I was just going to edit to say please don't bother replying with that. I know I left it wide open.

Come one, HatfieldMcCoy type party feuding aside, personal wants aside just for once, if he actually does have reasonably progressed Alzheimer's disease, is he fit for office?

If he has not, fine. It is not a trick. The dems just get President Pence, that is not a win for anyone :)

  4. Uh huh. The dems start agreeing with all of this in a knee-jerk reaction. Next thing you know you will be able to get a doctor's consultation and an online exam here.

Then the next day you read that they are all frothing at the mouth over the prospect of hillary, bernie, maxine waters, or joe biden on the ticket in 2020.

Any removal of a president should be based on an impeachment process due to the president's actions; not on a "medical examination".

While it is pretty clear that Trump has a narcissistic personality (many politicians do); the claims he has Alzheimers & should be removed from office appear far-fetched.

Under HR1987 - many of our past presidents would have been removed from office on medical grounds including FDR (what is that cripple doing in the White House?)

  6. Ok, this is discussion, why is it far fetched though? Observe his speech patterns from a decade ago, he had similar policy ideas but very different presentation, a very very much sharper man IMO. Speech, errors in spelling are classic early mid stage signs. So are balance issues.

His father had Alzheimer's disease. His grandfather died of Spanish flu in 1918 so we don't know.

We cannot know for sure until we look at him. FDR's mind was fine it seemed. We trust Stephen Hawking who is a cripple.

If he has a progressive dementia, which gets worse under stress, should he be president?

So we should have a bunch of politically appointed doctors monitoring the president to see if he is physically and mentally fit for office. Sounds like one of the most politically absurd notions ever put forward. It would be amusing to watch it back-fire on Democrats. For example, let's assume Hillary was elected president; the first time she faints then out she goes.

  8. Uh huh. Outworking everyone around him. Running for president and beating both the bush and clinton dynasties by outcampaigning........getting a massive number of votes by building rapport with previously alienated voters. These are all signs that a man is slipping and is out of touch.

  9. Whataboutism regarding Hillary, yes, she should not have been a candidate for many reasons IMO but that is a different matter.

I believe that eyesight aside a president should be capable of passing a pilot medical examination for dementia, just a private one at least.

If your just saying that the president is different despite his singular ability to start a war then ok that is your view, you are ok with the risk, end of discussion.

It is a pity Trump's older pilot brother drank himself to death but he did so thats that.

Have you lived through caring for an elderly family member with Alzheimers? I'm not being a dick, just if you've ever taken a dinner plate across the face out of the blue, you might be more conservative. You can change the qualifications for president, if not this time then do we want third time, your out?

I remember very well moderate Repubicans & Dems (remember when they were around?) discussing Regan. My personal concern with Trump is he is belligerent to begin with. Regan was relatively cool and collected and listened to council.

This is a special case and special cases create precedent.

  10. This is beyond ridiculous. It's offensive and insulting.

I do find it fascinating that the same people who hissed at stories questioning Hillary's health after we saw with our own eyes repeated signs that something was wrong with her, now think a duly elected president should perhaps be tossed from office based on some subjective examination. The 25th Amendment is a bit troubling in itself, as it is a Pandora's box, but it was clearly intended for a situation where the president was obviously incapacitated.

The slander that Ronald Reagan was incapacitated by dementia in his second term is also a liberal fantasy, motivated by a sick desire to tear down the legacy of our greatest modern president. He was old but he had enough going for him to rescue our economy, turn the country around and win the Cold War. He survived an attack from a crazed assassin who managed to pump a bullet into him at point blank range under the noses of the Secret Service, them cracked jokes in the ER while fighting for his life. He was a man's man, a worthy representative of the Greatest Generation, not some doddering old fool.
