https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/derek-chauvin-trial-04-01-21/index.html I think I've seen enough from this trial. The video evidence, the witnesses, doesn't get more overwhelming than this. Does anybody on here still support what he did?
I'm not aware of anyone who supported what he did. Cops need to stop choking people or impeding breathing or life function while they are subduing them. If a few cops have to go to prison for that message to sink in then I guess I'm ok with that. I'm not saying that the cops should not have detained a counterfeiting drug addled felon who is resisting. I'm saying to stop choking them. Tase them into the next dimension but stop choking people.
MAGGATS judge chauvin's actions of Floyd's past, I'd say cancel culture should be the least of their worries if they want to play that game
In the scheme of things, this is a poverty crime and health issue. We need better ways to deal with these issues. We put too much of these matters on police: homelessness, mental health, drug addiction, etc when the police are not trained to deal with that stuff. Floyd was called in as being on drugs for a petty crime that shouldn’t amount to anything really. Some kind of social worker, backed up by the police, should be the first line in this kind of infraction. Also, so much of police training is based on the availability of guns in America they are trained to get suspects into submission instead of corral them, like in countries with smart gun laws.
My bigger issue is the cops have no information at the time of the arrest. Everyone is saying the cops should be allowed to do this to a previously convicted criminal or whatever but the cop had no clue about this man's past, he only was responding to a call and chose to knee him into the ground for 20 minutes. Remember that Floyd was already handcuffed on the ground on his stomach. Detention is part of the job but the cops seem to get a little more aggressive and less forgiving when the suspect is of another race. Even when it is still a white person they go full Rambo on the suspect with nothing to go on. This is the part of policing that needs to change now. Everything in the trial is the defense trying to paint Goerge as a drug addict or former criminal.... But the law does not say you can kill a suspect if he used drugs or committed a crime in the past... more importantly the cop did not know that. All he knew was a Black man was suspected of something and needed to be beaten down and kneed. <I am not addressing this to you Snark, just using your post to comment>
Indeed, I watched a bunch of the witnesses testifying in the trial so far. It was real sneaky shit today when the defense attorney on a cross asked Floyd's girlfriend what he had her listed as, in the contact list..."Momma". Fucked up man. A fake $20 bill. Chauvin ain't getting off on this one. If he does, it will make Rodney King look like a friendly mosh pit.
Yeah the questions to the girlfriend were real shady and had NOTHING to do with the day in question. Just looking for anything to make jury believe it was ok he died. Basically trying to show that the guy who died was worth killing so no harm no foul. Like Floyd yelling out for his girlfriend using her nickname is so different than yelling out for his momma...either way he was dying. If he yelled out for a stripper named candy does it mean it was ok he died? Smart thing is for the defense to plead to the 3rd degree charge and get lightest prison sentence but DA is scared of riots from citizens for lighter sentence. But as fucked up as the death was it is impossible to prove 1st or 2d degree with actual facts rather than emotion. The trial being televised is the worse thing that can happen and TV cameras should not have been allowed in there so that fuckies at CNN and FOX can break down every word for 3 hours each night.
He will get, as a minimum, third degree manslaughter. If other things are taken into consideration he might get a murder conviction. He isn't going to walk away in either case Minneapolis, Portland, Atlanta and quite a few other cities are going to be torn up no matter what the outcome is. Its foregone.
He will likely get 10-15 years based on standard sentencing procedures if convicted of third degree murder. He'll be out in less than 10 years with good behavior. A lot of people won't see that as justice and there's likely to be riots.
